We are so thankful for how our community has come together to support each other through this pandemic. The City of Edgewater has stepped up to offer financial support for local businesses and resident through grant programs. Organizations like Jeffco Public Schools, the Action Center and Jeffco Eats are stepping up to connect food and other resources to families and community members.

Since we focused our organizational efforts on responding to this crisis and supporting families and community members, generous donors have stepped up to give over $14,000 to support Mutual Meals and the Jefferson Area Family and Community Support Fund. 18 volunteers have stepped up and donated their time to be drivers for Mutual Meals. We are also thankful to the Denver Foundation and Community First Foundation for $15,000 in grants to support these efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will allow us to continue these efforts to connect meals and other resources to local families and community members through the summer.

Mutual Meals Update

This week we had our busiest week with 357 meals delivered to families and community members. This means that over $2,600 went to two Edgewater businesses, Providence at 5280 and Edgewater Inn. Today we will deliver food boxes from the Action Center to 9 families in our local schools (35 household members).

Supporting Teachers and Staff

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, we are listening to the needs of teachers and staff at our local schools as their family or household finances are impacted by the pandemic. We’ve heard some of our teachers and school staff are going through financial struggles as roommates or partners have lost income and the bills are still coming in.

Housing Support for Immigrant Families

As we talk to school staff and Family Engagement Liaisons in our local schools, one of the biggest needs right now is help with covering rent costs. These needs are greatest with our immigrant families that will not be receiving a stimulus check. We believe that our undocumented neighbors are important members of our community and we want to offer them financial support through these tough times. As members of our community receive stimulus checks, we wanted to provide a way that they can support families who will not be receiving a check.

If you would like to donate to help cover the housing costs of our immigrant families, you can donate to the Jefferson Area Family and Community Support Fund here. When you receive your donation confirmation email, just reply and let us know that you would like to designate your gift to help cover housing costs for a family.
