Staffing Changes and How You Can Support Our Work
joelnewtonI’m writing with some difficult news that we want to share with honesty and care. On Monday we notified two of our staff members, Maria Martinez and Debbi Spranza, that their roles would be ending effective July 15, 2025.
This was a very hard decision for me to make as both Maria and Debbi have been essential to the expansion of Edgewater Collective’s work over the last few years. Maria and Debbi were integral to the launch of four worker cooperative businesses and Family Leadership Training Institute.
This decision comes in response to the tough funding landscape for nonprofit organizations. Two critical grants we hoped for didn’t come through this spring. With larger nonprofits losing federal funding, it is becoming harder for smaller nonprofits like ours to compete for grants. These funding challenges will remain for the foreseeable future, and we needed to make cuts to ensure that our programs alongside Latino communities in Jefferson County were able to continue.
I am committed to working alongside Maria and Debbi to ensure that they find their next employment opportunity. I am indebted to both of them for their dedication to our mission and our work. We worked so well together and this loss is felt by all of us.
Edgewater Collective remains committed to continuing our programs to support schools, our worker cooperative businesses, and encouraging civic engagement through Family Leadership Training Institute. This transition will be a hard one for all of us, and we’ll need to work together to ensure that we can continue this important work during a time when it is needed most.
As we move forward, we will be forming advisory groups and creating volunteer roles so that our work with Latino communities in Jefferson County can continue. Les escribo con una noticia difícil que queremos compartir con honestidad y cariño. El lunes notificamos a dos de nuestras empleadas, María Martínez y Debbi Spranza, que sus funciones finalizarán a partir del 15 de julio de 2025.
Esta fue una decisión muy difícil para mí, ya que tanto María como Debbi han sido esenciales para la expansión del trabajo de Edgewater Collective en los últimos años. María y Debbi fueron fundamentales para el lanzamiento de cuatro cooperativas de trabajadores y el Instituto de Capacitación en Liderazgo Familiar.
Esta decisión surge en respuesta al difícil panorama de financiamiento para las organizaciones sin fines de lucro. Dos subvenciones cruciales que esperábamos no se concretaron esta primavera.
