Roger’s Run 2021 has been postponed. We are hard at work helping families and schools recover from the pandemic, so we made the hard decision to postpone until 2022 when we can devote more of our energy to making this event fun and exciting for the Edgewater community.

About Roger’s Run

For the last 6 years, we have organized the Edgewater 5k to raise funds for our efforts supporting local schools and the Edgewater community. This year we are going to go in a different direction with Roger’s Fun Run!

Because our community is just less than a square mile, Roger’s Fun Run 2021 will be a one mile out and back run on Edgewater’s historic 25th Avenue. The race will begin at 25th and Sheridan and run/walk uphill to Harlan Street. Then runners and walkers will loop around Roger and then head back downhill to Sheridan.

Who is Roger?

Roger the Elephant is one of the key figures in the legends of the Edgewater community. In the late 1800s Roger was a key attraction at the Manhattan Beach Resort which sat at the northwest corner of Sloan’s Lake. Roger would give rides to area children but one of those rides ended in tragedy. Edgewater legends are told about how Roger was killed and buried on the property at 20th and Depew which will soon be the Edgewater Public Market. 9News did some investigations and found that Roger in fact was not killed and was still at Manhattan Beach the next year.

We chose to name the race after Roger because of his place in our community’s legends and stories. As Edgewater grows and changes, it’s important to lift up the history and stories of our community.
