Shared Commitment to Safe and Welcoming Jefferson County Communities

We are committed to creating communities in Jefferson County, Colorado, where all are safe and welcomed regardless of race, religion, gender, sexuality, national origin, or immigration status. Each of our organizations operates according to our unique missions and strategies, yet we are united in our core values of creating safe and welcoming spaces for everyone.

Due to the anti-immigrant rhetoric from the new administration, fears of deportation and loss of rights are present in community members who have found their home in Jefferson County.

The history of Jefferson County is marked by periods of discrimination against different races, immigrants, and other marginalized communities. Our communities saw the rise of the Ku Klux Klan and the enactment of neighborhood covenants that kept out those of different races or national origins. Now is another chance for us to stand together, alongside our neighbors from all places and backgrounds, to ensure that all are safe and welcome in our communities.

We, the undersigned, agree to the following shared commitments:

    • We are committed to working together with county and municipal governments as well as partner organizations to ensure that immigrant communities have the information and resources they need to thrive during this stressful time.
    • We will ensure that immigrant community members are aware of their rights and that these constitutional rights are protected.
    • We will advocate for policies and practices that safeguard the health and safety of immigrant community members.
    • We will strengthen relationships with immigrant community members connected to our organizations to build trust and listen for how our organization can create more welcoming and safe spaces in our organization.

To our community members who are immigrants and are creating homes in Jefferson County, you are welcome here. You are valued members of our communities. You are not alone.
