Saint Tank judges Grant Babb and Caitlin Bell with winners Enrique Barraza, Jovi Trujillo and Jorge Padilla

On April 14, students from Jefferson High School in Edgewater competed for two monetary awards in the Saint Tank competition. Drawing inspiration from ABC’s Shark Tank, students developed business ideas that would benefit the Edgewater community.

Local business leaders, Grant Babb of Joyride Brewing Company and Caitlin Bell of Bellco Credit Union, served as judges along with Edgewater Collective Executive Director Joel Newton. The $500 award for first place was sponsored by Bellco Credit Union and the $250 second place award was sponsored by Edgewater Collective.

Students pitched their business ideas to the judges and judges responded with questions for the students. Taking first place and winning $500 for his idea of customized, iron-on T-shirts was Jovi Trujillo. Second place and $250 went to Jorge Padilla and Enrique Barraza for their idea of a lawn mowing company. Each of these students will receive business coaching from local business leaders as they launch their businesses.

Special thanks to Bellco Credit Union for sponsoring the $500 award for Saint Tank and Grant Babb and Caitlin Bell for judging the competition.
