Project Goal

Double the amount of Jefferson Jr/Sr High graduates who go on to college

Targeted Resources to Guide Students to College

Many of these Jefferson graduates are the first members of their family to graduate high school and go on to college. We are working with multiple partners to bring targeted resources to these students to provide a summer bridge to college.

Here are the resources available to these students:

  • CareerPlus Mentoring Program through Goodwill during the school year
  • Job skill training and job fair in spring 2017
  • Scholarships for college
  • College Jumpstart Week in June
    • Week long program focused on training students in the skills and self-awareness necessary to succeed in college
  • Mentoring in June, July and August
  • Computer and printer incentive for student who complete their first three weeks of college


Invest in College Jumpstart

With decreased funding for our local schools, we believe it is up to local residents and businesses to help fund school projects like College Jumpstart. This spring and summer we are hoping to raise $40,000 to support College Jumpstart.

Thanks to generous donors and community members we have already raised $20,600 for this exciting project! $19,400 left to go!

These funds will go to the following elements of the program:

  • College Jumpstart Week in June
  • Computer and printer incentives for students that complete their first three weeks of college
  • CareerPlus Mentoring program through Goodwill

Saints Give Back: Alumni Giving

We have created a way for Jefferson High School graduates to give back to their alma mater and encourage the next generation of Saints.

Alumni can visit the alumni giving page and search for their graduation year. If a group page is not already started, alumni can click on “Start Fundraising” and create a page for their graduation class.

Community members can even jump in and support by giving to the “Community Members” team.

Business Partnerships

Our desire is to connect local businesses to this effort in a way that benefits our students and local businesses.

Here are some ways businesses can join this effort:

  • Hire a Jefferson graduate this summer and encourage them to follow through on their college enrollment
  • Mentor a student in the program this summer
  • Invest financially in the College Jumpstart project

Become a Mentor

Mentors will work with a small group of students (3-4) in June, July and August and provide encouragement and advice as they prepare for college. Mentoring groups will meet in person for an hour each month and communicate over email or phone in between meetings.
